Location
Marbella Golden Mile runs for approximately 2.8 miles from Marbella’s famous Copper Tower (El Piruli) to Puerto Banús , along the main coastal road. It covers both the beach and the mountainside, extending up north to exclusive areas such as Nagüeles, Sierra Blanca and Cascada de Camoján.
History and iconic sites
Long before the glamorous visitors to Marbella Golden Mile, were the Romans, leaving a trace of their also glamorous existence in this exclusive area. One can still see the remains of a Roman villa near Río Verde, with its beautifully preserved mosaic tiles displaying a life of wealth, beauty and luxury; or the little Roman Bridge, around which Puente Romano Hotel was built. Looking back to a closer time in history, Marbella’s destiny as an international luxury resort destination unfolded in the 1950s. Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe created the Marbella Club Hotel in 1954, attracting friends, jet-setters, film stars and royalty from all over Europe. People like Sean Connery, Liz Taylor, Bridget Bardot and Audrey Hepburn were among the regular guests during this so-called golden era. On the back of the huge success of its neighbour, the Marbella Club Hotel, Puente Romano Hotel was built in 1974. Golden Mile soon became one of the most prestigious addresses in Europe, even more so when King Fahd of Saudi Arabia built a summer residence in the 1980s, Palacio Mar Mar (today called El Rocío). It was then that the expression Golden Mile was coined by German singer and developer Roy Boston, to refer to the stretch between Marbella Centre and Puerto Banús. Today, this exclusive area still maintains an atmosphere of luxury, glamour and a prime Mediterranean lifestyle.

An international and private school for children aged 11 to 18 years old which follows the British curriculum. Located in Nagüeles (with the Primary School in Marbella Centre), it is one of the top international schools on the coast, known for its academic achievements and its offer of extracurricular activities.
British International School of Marbella:
An international and private school for children aged 2 to 18 years old offering the British curriculum. Located in Nagüeles, it is traditional and formal in style with a modern approach to teaching and learning.
Les Roches
One of the world’s leading international hotel and tourism management schools. It is a regional campus of the Swiss university Les Roches International School of Hotel Management. The campus, established in 1995, focuses on luxury hotel management and offers bachelor's, postgraduate and master’s degrees.
Marbella International University Centre
A private university with degrees in business, international relations and marketing among others, in collaboration with England.
Public Schools
Colegio María Auxiliadora and Instituto Guadalpín. Education is exclusively in Spanish but international families are welcome.

Here one can run, walk, cycle or roller-skate along the Paseo Marítimo; join some of the fitness clubs on the beach for outdoor training; practise many of the water sports on offer on the magnificent beaches; hike the mountain of La Concha; or practice tennis in the prestigious Puente Romano Tennis Club, one of Southern Europe’s most important professional clubs where Boris Becker, John McEnroe and Serena Williams, among others, have participated in the Club’s tournaments. Golf, of course, is also a very popular sport for those on the Golden Mile with many world-class courses nearby!
Shopping
The Golden Mile has some of the best luxury shops and international brands. Exclusive fashion brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton; exquisite diamonds at De La Fuente Jewellery; hippie and glamorous style at Las Noches Ibiza; traditional and functional dressing at Saint-Tropez-based, Baidoux; swim and beachwear at exclusive British brand Orlebar Brown; or the finest linen at 100% Capri can all be found along the coastal road. Moreover, there are textile and furniture shops, car showrooms, art dealers, and organic shops. And just a few minutes’ drive away is the incredible world of international high-end brands in Puerto Banús.

Marbella Golden Mile is a hub of vibrant nightlife, offering an array of high-end establishments to suit everyone’s taste, all under Marbella’s cosmopolitan charm and international allure. For grocery shopping, there are three major supermarkets located in this area, namely Carrefour, Lidl and Aldi as well as the famous Organic Market & Food, right opposite Marbella Club Hotel. Also, healthcare facilities are very close to Marbella Golden Mile; the public Hospital Costa del Sol is a 15-minute drive while Hospital Ochoa, Hospital Quironsalud Marbella and Helicopteros Sanitarios are even nearer, within a few minutes' drive.
