Location
It is located on the east side of Marbella Centre. It follows the Mediterranean shoreline for over 12 miles from its most eastern point, Cabopino, to Marbella Centre.
History and iconic sites
Marbella East is a long-standing area of Marbella developed before other zones in the region. Its rich history has left behind a great heritage with remains of Phoenician coastal settlements around the Río Real area, dating back from the 7th century BC, or the tower called “Torre Ladrones” within the Artola Dunes natural park, built in medieval Spain under Muslim rule. Fast forwarding to the 20th century, there was the opening of emblematic hotels and famous sites during the decades of the 60s and 70s, shaping Marbella into a luxury and glamorous destination and attracting worldwide artists, celebrities and the aristocracy. These included Los Monteros Spa & Golf Resort, the first hotel to have a golf course in Marbella; La Cabane, one of the first beach clubs to open in the world; Río Real Golf Hotel, a pioneer in the world of golf on the Costa del Sol; Puerto de Cabopino, one of Spain’s most picturesque marinas; Don Carlos Hotel, the first hotel in Andalucía to focus on the meetings & events tourism; and Incosol Hotel Medical Spa, specializing in health and spa treatments for the rich and famous.

The English International College (EIC)
A private school which offers education for children aged 3 to 18 and follows the British curriculum. It was founded in 1982 and has become a favourite amongst families due to its effective pedagogy and outstanding results.
Colegio Alborán
A private and Spanish-English bilingual school for children aged 3 to 18. The school boasts extensive grounds, an equestrian centre and excellent outdoor sports facilities to practice swimming or basketball.
Las Chapas Girls School and its sister school ECOS Boys School
Private and Spanish-English bilingual schools for children 3 to 18 years old. Located in Elviria, they are well known for their early-stage pedagogical projects and their wide variety of extracurricular activities.
The German International School
A private and German-Spanish bilingual school for children aged 3 to 18. Situated in La Mairena, it also offers a boarding option.
Public Spanish Schools
Colegio Platero and Instituto Dunas de las Chapas. Education is exclusively in Spanish but international families are welcome.

For the essentials, there are several supermarkets including Lidl, Mercadona and Carrefour as well as banks, shops, cafes and a weekly street market around Elviria commercial centre. Also, the main public hospital in the city is in Marbella East (Hospital Costa del Sol). Additionally, there are private care centres such as Medhelp Centro Médico El Rosario and Centro Médico Elviria.
